vSet vs eSet Meters: Which One Fits Your Planter?
eSet goes inside a John Deere vacuum meter. vSet replaces the whole meter. Here's how to decide which one makes sense for your planter.
Both are Precision Planting meters, and both use a flat disk and a singulator that doesn't need adjusting. The real difference is how much of your planter they replace.
eSet: the retrofit
eSet goes inside your existing John Deere vacuum meter. It swaps in a flat disk with no cells, since cells are what's sensitive to seed size and shape, and a floating singulator. You set your vacuum, fill the planter and go.
It fits John Deere Pro Series row units and standard row hoppers. If you're running Deere vacuum meters and fighting adjustments, this is the lower-cost way to fix that.
vSet: the whole meter
vSet is a complete meter replacement. Precision Planting rates it over 99% singulation in corn and soybeans, with zero singulator adjustments.
It's also the base for most of what comes next. vDrive electric drive mounts to the vSet meter. SpeedTube pulls seed right off the vSet disk. vSet Select and mSet are multi-hybrid systems built around it too.
How to decide
eSet makes sense if:
- You run John Deere vacuum meters
- You mainly want better singulation for less money
- Electric drive and high speed aren't on your list
vSet makes sense if:
- You want row-by-row shutoff or true variable rate with vDrive
- You want to plant faster with SpeedTube
- Multi-hybrid is on your list
- You're not on a Deere vacuum meter in the first place
Either way, it wears
Neither one is a set-it-and-forget-it part. Both have wear items, and both should see a test stand now and then. vSet is most of what comes across our bench.
